What is the Drug and Alcohol Action Team (DAAT)?
DAAT’s are defined in the National Drugs Strategy. They are non-statutory autonomous bodies charged with the role of being the ‘principal mechanism by which agencies will develop the resource partnerships’ to give ‘clear co-ordination between objectives, resources and outcomes’.
The Staffordshire County Drug and Alcohol Action (SCDAAT) team was set up in 1995 to tackle drug and alcohol misuse through a partnership of key agencies. In planning and working together, we have a more realistic chance of reducing drug and alcohol misuse across Staffordshire.

Tackling Drugs to Build a Better Britain
Tackling Drugs to Build a Better Britain, launched in April 1998 by the UK Anti-Drugs Co-ordinator, is a ten year national strategy for continuing a partnership approach for addressing drug misuse locally. Across England 111 Drug Action Teams are charged with developing a strategy which ensures joint commitment to reducing levels of drug use and minimising the harm associated with use.
The focus of the strategy has four key elements:
- Young People
- Communities
- Treatment
- Availability
